Loch Lomond, Scotland

Promotional Film & Photography for SYHA

Posted In: Photography For Business

Rowardennan is one of my favourite places. It’s on the banks of Loch Lomond and at the foot of Ben Lomond.

Through each season many people choose to stay at its Youth Hostel with its unbeatable loch side location. The boat company Cruise Loch Lomond even runs a waterbus service to and from the hostel, connecting walkers, cyclists and tourists with other parts of Loch Lomond.

In the summer of 2014, SYHA the Hostelling Scotland organisation commissioned me to produce a Promotional Video about their ‘Give Us A Break’ project which a collaboration with their sponsor Friends Provident.

The project involved 10 children from a Barnado’s group in Kilmarnock who undertook a two-day programme that gave them experience of the great outdoors. The children took part in team skills, canoeing, mountain biking and bush crafts.

The purpose of the project is to provide these experiences to groups of children who wouldn’t normally get these opportunities due to their background and circumstances.

Since ‘Give Us A Break’ started in 2004 Provident has provided £280,000 of funding towards the costs, this has allowed over 3,000 young people from all over Scotland have been able to take part.

As we filmed the activities and got to know the children and staff it was incredibly inspiring to see their journey through the progress. All learned new skills and coped with the challenges in a very enthusiastic way. It was amazing to watch them learning how to get the most of the outdoors and observe them conquering fears and moving forward together as a team.

Here is the final film that we produced for SYHA that is being used to promote the experience to other groups throughout Scotland. I hope you enjoy the film; it was a pleasure to produce, even if we got a bit sunburnt on the first day!

Here also is a selection of still images from the two days. If you are interested in getting video and photography for your organisation please call me on 01360 661029, or through my media or photography websites. Filming & Editing by Alan McMaster or McMaster Media.
